Sky Garden
A roof that was too hot to stand on, turned into clipped hedges, planters and a shaded seating court.
The brief
The slab could take limited extra load, so every planter was sized with the structural engineer and filled with a lightweight soil mix. Hedges run along the parapet to break the wind and frame the city.
Drip irrigation is zoned by sun exposure. The south edge gets twice the water of the shaded court, which keeps the planting even through June.
